Cozy Chessu is a 3D chess and deck-building game where players follow the story of Ryo and an Izakaya that he once called home. Seeking help from an old childhood friend, players must learn to master chess and cards to take down a group of greedy yakuza.
Creative Director: Justin Chu
My Roles: Lead Producer, 2D Game Artist
Cozy Chessu is available to wishlist on Steam:
Lead Producer
My key role on Cozy Chessu was a lead producer, where I was responsible for overseeing all of the project's progress and team members. I organized schedules, wrote tasks, documented each phase of the production, and spearheaded the team through the process of game development.
2D Game Artist
Responsibilities:
-
Designed and ideated various UI assets, character sprites, and concept art
-
Worked with the Creative Director and Art Director to achieve strong designs to build strong, visually appealing artwork for the game
-
Researched and explored UI and other art styles from existing games to determine the visual aesthetic

Early UI/UX Mindmap - During early development, I collaborated with my UI/UX teammate to create a mind map on Miro for the various screens that players would access while playing Cozy Chessu. We focused on how a player gets from one screen to another (i.e Title Screen to Lobby) and what key UI/UX functions were important to the game.

Character Portrait Sprites
I helped illustrate nearly all of the character sprites in Cozy Chessu. Working with the Narrative team and Art Director,
I focused on capturing each character's energy through their expressions. I also help design a Style Guide to establish rules to maintain style consistency.
