Cozy Chessu
A 3D chess and deck buidling game where players follow the story of Ryo and an Izakaya that he once called home. Seeking out an old childhood friend for help, players must learn to master the art of chess and cards to take out a group of greedy yakuzas.
Creative Director: Justin Chu
My Roles: Lead Producer, 2D UI Artist
Lead Producer
My key role on Cozy Chessu was a lead producer, where I was responsible for overseeing all of the project's progress and team members. I organized schedules, wrote tasks, documented each phase of the production, and spearheaded the team through the process of game development.
2D UI/UX Concept Artist
Responsibilities:
-
Designed and ideated various UI assets such as buttons, icons screens, and wireframes
-
Worked with the Creative Director and Art Director to achieve strong designs to build a smooth UX system for players
-
Researched and explored UI styles from existing games to determine the visual aesthetic of the game's UI

Early UI/UX Mindmap - During early development, I collaborated with my UI/UX teammate to create a mind map on Miro for the various screens that players would access while playing Cozy Chessu. We focused on how a player gets from one screen to another (i.e Title Screen to Lobby) and what key UI/UX functions were important to the game.
Early UI Wireframes and Concepts
In order to visualize Cozy Chessu's UI design, I created some wireframe mock-ups that quickly communicate key UI features that we wanted to have. These wireframes are then given to an engineer to build temporary assets in Unreal Engine.

Ability Cards Assets
A key part of Cozy Chessu's gameplay is the ability to use cards to play chess. I designed a set of ability cards that can influence chess matches. These cards almost act like "Draw +4" cards or "Wild Cards" in UNO.
